|JSB partnered with the YWCA Elgin in 2009 for “Wish Upon a Wardrobe” to provide local teen girls with the total prom shopping experience. JSB collected gently used dresses, shoes and accessories and organized a one day event for the girls. Now, in 2010 JSB partnered once again with the YWCA Elgin to acquire and implement Cinderella’s Closet from Kane and DuPage County’s Junior League.|
“Prom Time in Downtown Elgin” kicked off Sept. 20 with a Progressive Prom Fashion Walk — part flash mob, part fashion show and all great fun! Fashion models from the Elgin Junior Service Board gathered in DuPage Court for a high energy, impromptu outdoor fashion show. Models were “Gala-vanting” around downtown streets and inside various businesses showcasing the fashions available at the YWCA’s Cindy’s Super Sale event on Saturday, Sept. 29. For details about Cindy’s Super Sale, visit www.YWCAElgin.org.
At 6:30 p.m., it’s the pre-prom party before downtown Elgin’s biggest formal party of the year as the Progressive Prom Fashion Walk then converges upon Villa Verone, 13 Douglas Ave. in downtown Elgin, for the DNA’s Elgin Non-Profit of the Week Prom-tastic Party. Guests will be decked out in the finest formal attire and enjoy fab fashions, free appetizers, fantastic karaoke, fancy-free dancing and fun with friends. The DNA will also officially be celebrating its new managing director, Jason Pawlowski.
Volunteers will be registering guests for the 2012 DNA Prom Time Awards Gala on Thursday, Oct. 11, at the Grand Victoria Casino, as well as selling 50/50 Awards Gala raffle tickets. Ladies in attendance can also find out more about purchasing THE dress for the DNA Prom Time Awards Gala at the YWCA Elgin’s Cindy’s Super Sale.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Cinderella's Closet ~ 2012 was uber successful because of you, wonderful you!!!
We have approximately 200 volunteers that work all year round to make this event magical for the high school teens in the Elgin area and beyond!
If you were able to be at the event on Saturday, please share with me any ideas or suggestions to streamline processes. I apologize that the start of the day was a bit crazy, however, 2013, we will ask the first shift of volunteers to start at 8am and that should help a lot. But after things got rolling, it went pretty smoothly... considering we served close to 300 girls!
Thank you all for creating a special memory for these girls and their families. I was lucky enough to talk to a few Mom's, and they never could have provided a gown for their daughter. This was a life experience that their daughter would not be able to experience because of finances. But Cinderella's Closet was able to provide the gown and now the teen will be able to have this life memory.
I was also fortunate to meet a homeless girl, who became an incredible volunteer, who never imagined her self with a personal shopper, in a beautiful boutique and walking away with a beautiful gown. Prom was just an event that other girls experienced, not her....or so she thought.
I know that all of you have many more stories than I do because you were all hands on creating the magical day for them. Please feel free to share any stories with us. Lots of happy tears, and this is because of the hard work that all of you do to create this event!!!
If I did not personally thank you, my apologies. I did try to remember to tell everyone, and shame on me, if I did not!
Thank you to all of you that also brought breakfast, lunch, snacks and water/soda. It really hit the spot!
If you would like to continue to volunteer and receive these emails, you do not need to do anything. If you would like to be removed from the volunteer roster, please let us know.
Thank you all very much for a job well done!!!
